If we win all our games we'll be in Europe anyway.

Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
How many Champions League and Europa League places does the Premier League have?
Four in the Champions League, which could become five, and three in the Europa League.

Winning the Premier League guarantees seeded status in the Champions League group stage, while finishing second or third guarantees a group stage place.

Finishing fourth in the Premier League is scheduled to provide a place in the final Champions League qualifying round.

A Europa League group stage place is allotted to the FA Cup winners and at least one club via Premier League standing. Winning the League Cup provides a place in the final Europa League qualifying round (if League Cup winners Man City qualify for Europe via another route, the League Cup winners' place will be awarded on the basis of Premier League placing - see below).

Of course, it's possible and likely clubs will qualify for European competition by more than one route, in which case it changes the qualification details, as explained below.

How could five Premier League clubs qualify for the Champions League?
If Liverpool win the Europa League and finish outside of the top four in the Premier League.

Is it possible that fourth place in the Premier League won't provide a place in the final Champions League qualifying round?
Yes. If Manchester City win the Champions League and finish fourth in the Premier League, they would qualify directly for the Champions League group stage, as holders, and no Premier League clubs will take part in the qualifying round. If City win the Champions League but finish outside the Premier League top four, City will qualify for the Champions League as holders and the fourth place team from the Premier League will qualify for the Europa League.

How are the three Europa League places awarded?
Europa League group stage qualification can be secured via a Premier League place (see below) or winning the FA Cup, while winning the League Cup secures a place in the third qualifying round. As winners of the 2016 Capital One Cup, as it stands Manchester City have a place in the Europa League third qualifying round. But it looks as though City will qualify for the Champions League, most likely by finishing in the top four or possibly by winning the Champions League itself. In which case, their qualification for the Europa League via the League Cup will go to another club, based on Premier League placings. Here's where it starts to get a little bit more complicated.

Fourth place in the Premier League will definitely provide Europa League qualification if...
Manchester City win the Champions League but finish outside the Premier League top four (unless Liverpool finish fourth and win the Europa League)

Fifth place in the Premier League will definitely provide Europa League qualification if...
Manchester City don't win the Champions League

Sixth place in the Premier League will definitely provide Europa League qualification if...
Manchester City finish in the Premier League top four

Seventh place in the Premier League will definitely provide Europa League qualification if...
Manchester United win the FA Cup and finish in the top six, and Manchester City finish in the top five

Eighth place in the Premier League will definitely provide Europa League qualification if...
Liverpool win the Europa League and finish seventh in the Premier League AND Manchester United win the FA Cup and finish in the top six in the Premier League AND Manchester City qualify for the Champions League (either finishing top four or winning the Champions League itself)

Clubs definitely CANNOT qualify for the Europa League by...
Finishing as runners up in the FA Cup final or via the 'Fair Play' league.

Last season West Ham United earned a spot in the first qualifying round of the Europa League having topped the 2014-15 Premier League Fair Play table, but qualification places are no longer awarded on this basis.

The last time the FA Cup runners up were eligible for Europa League qualification was in 2014, when Hull City lost to Arsenal at Wembley but were awarded a European place due to the Gunners' Champions League qualification.

When Arsenal won the FA Cup again in 2015, while also qualifying for the Champions League, Liverpool took the Europa League spot thanks to their Premier League place, rather than cup final runners up Aston Villa.

Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
Other place will be cup winners or runners up. I think they enter one stage earlier.

Cup runners up don't. No longer qualify for Europa League. Nor did they last season (Aston Villa)

Crystal ball PD?

Probably a tougher set of fixtures than us.

3 teams with something to play for as opposed to 1 for us.

2 teams in the top 6 as opposed to 1 for us.

The most important game away as opposed to home.

We have a better goal difference.

Certainly doable.

And I enjoyed our European games (even at that level) and it is a tangible sign of progress to potential new signings etc. And if Liverpool who we did the double over can get to the semi finals, we can do okay with some squad additions. Would love Europa League especially if we don't have to do the qualifying and playoff rounds.

Cant believe I just read Man United have a difficult run in, Leicester, Norwich, Bounemouth & West Ham haha

Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
I don't think we will finish above Man Utd, in fact I'm certain of it. Liverpool are due a blip I reckon, will be tight though.

Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
I can see Liverpool winning all their remaining games and therefore finishing above us... beat Man Utd and we will finish above them, so I reckon 6th.

Would love CL but we have been cheated out of that.

Personally wouldn't be too bothered if we missed out on EL, I think we can really go for top 4 next season and a EL campaign would probably hinder that.

It did take penalties but we did.

Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
we had one this year and couldn't beat a Malta Pub team. Why would we want one again?

Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
So we want Man Utd to win the FA Cup, might help us catch them in the league. I think we have a slightly better GD as well.

However Liverpool can catch us now so if they don't win the Wafer Cup they can overtake us in the league. Finishing 5th would be fucking amazing given the 'beware what you wish for bollocks' before the season started.

Man U FA Cup yes, Liverpool Europa League, no. The latter will probably end up seeing a EL spot replaced with their CL spot, leaving none coming from league position. (just the two from the Cups)

The last sentence in all likelihood be just be enough, even if the worst happens elsewhere.

Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
Liverpool's run in is dead easy.
Newcastle H
Swansea A
Watford H
Chelsea H
West Brom A

Man Utd's have a much harder run in
Leicester H
Norwich A
West Ham A
Bournemouth H

We have
West Brom A
Swansea H
Man Utd H
Stoke A

Liverpool could win all 5 but I think they will win 3 and draw 2 due to the Europa league (65pts)

Man Utd will lose to us and Leicester win the others (65pts)

We will win 3 and draw against Stoke (66pts)

Lily Hammer 12:28 Thu Apr 21
Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
Win our remaining games, amd hope Man City and Arsenal kepp ending up with frustrating draws, and we could finish 3rd. The Gooners are the one who could possibly suffer that fate of draws, and you never know with City , as their big CL games approach.

I'm not done dreaming just yet.

stewie griffin 12:22 Thu Apr 21
Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
Think we want man utd to win the cup and Liverpool the Europa don't we?

Actually rephrase that, win our last 4 games and it won't matter.

Normally 5th and the FA Cup is group stage while League Cup is 3rd Qualifying Round (remember Southampton won at that stage but lost at the next Playoff Round.)

The things which can throw a wrench in is Liverpool winning the Cup as that can mean the Europa League 5th place spot can be turned into their Champions League spot.

Only poofs care whether their thread title is poofy...

Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
I think 5th gets you straight into the group stage as per Spurs this season.

6th gets you into last qualifier, as per Southampton who lost at that stage.

Other place will be cup winners or runners up. I think they enter one stage earlier.

How we doing on fair play, must be well up there as everyone we play gets someone sent off

5th place would be a terrific achievement ~ but we can dream of 4th
We've had a great season wherever we finish & are in a great position to kick on next season

Re: So OK! Would 7th get a Europa Spot?
Usually is.

6th almost definitely will be (someone will probably confirm soon).

5th is obviously good enough.

No chance for CHAMPSIES but one step at a time.

Leicester 'Happy-Clappy' City will be absolutely EMBARRASSED in the CHAMPSIES next season... Mark my fucking words.
